Deodorant vs antiperspirant: what to expect from objectiv.

obj. journal

You shower, put on a fresh shirt, and step outside. By the time you've reached the end of the street, the heat has already made itself known. You can feel a little dampness under your arms. Wasn't the roll-on supposed to take care of that?

It's a fair question. We tend to expect one small bottle to handle the smell, the sweat, the stickiness and whatever else the day brings. But those things don't all happen for the same reason.

A deodorant helps control body odour. An antiperspirant reduces sweating. The American Academy of Dermatology explains the distinction in its advice on sweating. Knowing which one you're reaching for makes the rest of the experience a little easier to understand.

The bottle doesn't tell the whole story

“Roll-on” tells you how you put a product on. The ball, the bottle, the familiar few swipes before getting dressed. What the formula does is a separate question. A roll-on can be a deodorant, an antiperspirant, or a combination of both.

Ours are deodorants. High Ground and Open Water are aluminium-salt-free deodorising roll-ons, made for odour control while allowing natural perspiration to continue. So yes, you can still sweat while wearing them.

What happens after the sweat starts

This is the part we kept coming back to at objectiv. A warm walk to work. A crowded commute. The gym after a day that has already gone on longer than expected. Sweat is part of those days. The smell and the way your underarms feel deserve some thought of their own.

For odour, our formula brings together SymDeo® B125, Triethyl Citrate and Zinc Ricinoleate. Each has a role in the deodorising system. We've written more about what those ingredients do if you'd like to look a little closer.

Then there's the feel of the product itself. Isoamyl Laurate adds glide, while Performance Starch helps give the formula a softer, less sticky finish. These ingredients address how the roll-on feels on your skin; they don't turn it into something that stops sweat.

Back to the morning

Using it is straightforward. Swipe 3–4 times evenly onto clean, dry underarms, then give it time to dry before getting dressed. That small pause belongs in the routine too.

After that, there's the scent you want to take with you. High Ground pairs Lemon, Juniper and Vetiver. Open Water brings together Grapefruit, Aqua and Amberwood. Both come in a 40 ml bottle.

You can spend a little time with the two fragrances, or find both roll-ons here. Whichever you choose, it helps to begin with the same expectation: a deodorant is there for the odour. Your body will still be doing what bodies do on a warm day.
